This is not the problem that you want to change your stream. However, the question is that if you are eligible for University of California or not? Certain things matters like, your graduation CGPA, Work experience in relevant field (which is very important), employers brand value, extracurricular etc. These are some of the broad parameters to judge the candidacy of the Student. Apart from the general procedure, I suggest you to go on their website, and check about the international alumni. Analysis their profile. A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum upper second class honor (NFQ level 8) or international equivalence and the appropriate prior learning. Maintain your good academic scores, get hold of a very good project work, and also have some extracurricular activities and unique hobbies. Entry requirements differ from country to country and university to university. Exams like GRE TOEFL or IELTS has to be given, depending where you want to study.

In case you can justify the fact that you're inclined towards physics no matter what, there's nothing that will stop you. You'll need to prove this, however through projects, internships, research papers and otherwise. All the best.

Normally speaking, the eligibility for doing post graduation in aeronautical engineering is Bachelor's in aeronautical engineering or allied branch. However, the students of other branches can select concerned or related specialisation of aeronautical engineering after caring concerned GATE examination.
