This is the minimum eligibility required:
* Compare 5 MSc Programs in Microbiology. While biology is the study of living beings as a whole, microbiology is concentrated on microscopic organisms. Bacteria, fungi, protests, and, in some cases, viruses are part of the organisms studied.
* Microbiology is good as a career so long as you keep your learning/academic graph upgraded, as with most life-science degrees you may need to keep going till PhD or post-doctoral studies with grants/fellowships to get a good job in academics/basic research whereas in industries/R&D.

According to me, it will be wrong decision to do M.Sc Microbiology through distance, because it is totally practical basis. The ability of microorganisms to degrade oil in oil spills, herbicides, pesticides, and to supplement food, produce energy, besides other uses of microorganisms is becoming increasingly relevant and useful. Microbiologists study these organisms using tools, like microscopes, genetics, and culturing. Microscopes allow scientists to magnify microbial cells that are otherwise too small to see.
