Yes, in general, a master's degree is one of the best stepping stones toward a doctorate. I would recommend that.However, I would also encourage anyone to reflect on why one would want to pursue a doctorate. A PhD is typically a research degree. It may help in teaching, and sometimes consulting, but in general, it should not be considered the best course for professional development.A master's degree indicates mastery of one's profession. If one is an engineer or professional, the master's degree will help one progress professionally more than will a doctoral degree.
