Both the branches are 2 different streams. If you aim to be a software engineer or if you are a good coder you can opt for VIT. If your aim is to become a mechanical engineer you can opt sastra. Now a days software industry has high demand if they study well they can get job easily that is not the case for mechanical engineering.

B.Tech there is Jee mains entrance exam for master degree there is no such requirement.
You can take admission in VIT Vellore on Merit Basis.
