The syllabus that is tough for you might be very easy to grasp for your friend, who finds it interesting and intriguing. For example, you may find Structural Dynamics and Advanced Numerical Analysis taught in the first year of M.Tech Civil Engineering very tough because of the high mathematical aptitude and analytical theory that it deals with. There is no strict rule as such when it comes to the age criteria for pursuing the M.Tech Civil Engineering course, but it is seen that students who opt for an M.Tech degree in Civil Engineering are 23 to 27 years old in general at the time of taking admission.Rest, it is better to always crosscheck by visiting the official website of the institution where you are planning to take admission because the eligibility requirements usually get revised every year, and hence, they may vary according to the present academic session.
