The most popular entrance exams for BTech admissions are JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Students can take many state- and private-level entrance exams in addition to these national entrance exams in order to be admitted to the course. The prerequisites for a BTech programme are primarily Class 12 Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. All entrance exams and institutes, however, have additional requirements. Certain institutions further provide admission to their courses based on merit, meaning that students' marks from their class 12 board exams are taken into consideration. In general, admission to a desired specialisation at the NITs requires a JEE Main score of 85–95 percentile, while admission to the IITs requires a minimum JEE Main percentile of 90 percentile.

Only the Entrance Test will be used to enrol the candidates. The results of any national or state-level entrance exam, such as JEE, AIEEE, etc., would be taken into account. The student must take the university entrance exam if they haven't taken any national or state entrance exams. AIEEE and JEE cutoffs may change depending on a number of variables.
