Yes, it's valid. In each branch, specific seats are reserved. See, JoSAA seat matrix for more specific numbers.

MANIT ranks second after SPA, Dehli on architecture. So, without any cover ups, go for MANIT if its available for you.

You should give your boards again next year, probably taking MP board which is easier than CBSE and will fetch you 75+ percentage marks easily.

If you are looking to do B.Arch from MANIT.
Then you have to secure a very good rank in JEE Mains paper-2 i.e. in B.Arch paper, if you score around 245-250 then your rank will nearly be 2000 and it is enough to get this college. And, if you are from HS quota then around 3000 rank is enough this is all about general category closing rank.
Moreover, JEE Mains paper-2 is not tough, it is a very easy paper. You only have to concentrate on JEE level mathematics and solve previous year's papers which will definitely help you.
All the best for your bright future.
Good luck!

If there isn't any top 20 percentile criteria, you will get on the basis of Mains marks you got. Check the list of govt. colleges offering your aspiring course on JoSAA website then watch your favourite college cut-off and then fill the choices accordingly.

Well, instead go for a good IIIT, you stand a good chance there. Metallurgy isn't a bad branch but as per the present scenario may conclude that taking IIIT instead is always a better option. But the rank which you mentioned, you will get EE or mechanical in MANIT. So, fill your choices wisely.

Last year's opening rank (OS) for architecture was beyond 1k, so with 960 it is obvious that you will get it. Moreover, you may try for even SPA, Delhi. Both MANIT and SPA, Delhi have topped cutoff list from many years.
