Hello Kiran,
There is a huge salary difference between ship and shore jobs. It's much less. However, your thinking is right. If you do NDT, then you can take on work of testing and certifying as entrepreneur.

Joint entrance examinations (JEE) is commonly associated with the engineering entrance examination conducted by IITs for admission in B.Tech. But JEE score is not used by the majority of marine engineering colleges.

At the time of joining college, one should not think of placement even though it's important. You should look for faculty, facilities and ability to give practical training, etc.

The Indian Maritime University, Chennai is a central university established by the Government of India for the development of trained human resource for the maritime sector. IMU conducts Common Entrance Tests for Admissions in B.Sc in nautical science and B.Tech in marine engineering programmes of the IMU and its affiliated institutes. You are advised to appear for IMU CET exam to do B.Tech in marine engineering.
