In general, to be eligible for a GME program, you must have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Naval Architecture from a recognized university or institution. You must also have a valid GATE score or qualify in any other entrance exam conducted by the respective institution.
Other requirements may include physical fitness and medical fitness certificates, as well as proficiency in English. Some institutions may also require work experience in the maritime industry.

At the undergraduate level, VELS University offers three to four-year B.Tech courses to students in various specialisations. Admission to various courses is based on merit and entrance exam scores. The eligibility criteria for various undergraduate courses including the B.Tech course is 45% to 60%. The deemed university accepts the scores of VEE. The seats are limited for the students, hence apply early for timely admission.

Yes IMUCET is mandatory for B.Tech Marine Engineering admission. IMU conducts a Common Entrance Test IMUCET every year on all India basis for admissions to its courses for IMU campuses and Affiliated Institutes. As per DGS Training Circular 12 of 2020 dated 01.04.2020, all MTIs regulated by DG Shipping are required to admit candidates on the basis of IMUCET making IMUCET mandatory for admission to DGS approved Courses. Hence Candidates seeking admission in Diploma in Nautical Science, B.Sc. (Nautical Science), and B.E/B.Tech. (Marine Engineering) to any MTI (government.
