Eligibility criteria for Marine engineering in Tamil Nadu is given below:
* To pursue a B.Tech. in Marine Engineering, a candidate must have cleared 10+2 or any equivalent examination from a recognized board or university under the science stream with compulsory subjects Physics, Chemistry and Maths.
* The minimum cut-off is 50% in most institutes.
* Clearing an entrance exam is mandatory in order to get into most Marine Engineering institutes.
* Candidates who have completed a Diploma in any stream of Engineering (Marine, Mechanical and Electrical) with 55-60% in final year can join the B.Tech. course from the 2nd year as part of the Lateral Entry scheme.

Marine Engineering covers concepts and processes involved in the manufacture, designing and operation of ship machinery and engines. The discipline is about the Science of nautical architecture. Marine engineers are responsible for supervising the engine crew involved in operating marine vessels and equipment. The eligibility criteria of this course is BE / B.Tech degree holders in mechanical or naval architecture disciplines are eligible to pursue this course. Minimum marks criteria may exist in the case of some institutes. Generally, the minimum eligible score for admission lies between 50-60% aggregate marks in the BE / B.Tech programme. The admission in the GME programme are based on the performance in Entrance Test. Hence, you have to first complete your graduation and then appear in entrance test.

You have to give only the Common Entrance Test (CET) of Indian Maritime University (A Central University of government of India). The eligibility criteria for CET is 10+2/ equivalent (PCM - 60% and minimum of 50% marks in English subject in class 10th / class 12th Examination.). The following are the programs.
1. 4-Year B.Tech (Marine Engineering)
2. 4-Year B.Tech (Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering)
3. 3-year B.Sc. (Nautical Science)
4. 3-Years B.Sc. Maritime Science
5. 1-Year Diploma in Nautical Science leading to B.Sc. (Applied Nautical Science)
The course fee is about Rs 225000/ per academic year. Further the registration of courses will starts from April-2019 (First week) and the CET will be held in June-2019 (First week).
