Hi Abhishek,
As one can say, the industry is doing quite well for itself and is predicted to do well for some years now. The students of this trade can look forward to working in public relations, television, films, publishing, journalism, editing, direction, etc. The thing to remember while applying to the industry is that people with strong people skills and a head for communication will be preferred any give day over others. Hi Siddharth,
This is from somebody who has been in Advertising for above 8 years and has had a UG and PG degree in mass communication.
Okay, firstly, none of the work areas (Advertising, PR, Journalism, Events etc) pay well when you are in the first 1-2 years of your career. The reason for this is pretty straight forward and somewhat justified - these fields of work are the kind where the things they teach in school and what happens in a real work environment is quite different.

Starting salary for a BJMC candidate is around rupees 15000 per month. If the campus has good placement record then the students will be picked up my PR media, print media or other mass media companies. Most of the placements in journalism happen through campus placement.

Hi Ravi,
Of course, you can. However, I fail to understand why do you want to do your B.Tech from IIT if your ultimate aim is to become a host with Fox Traveler. I mean you have your career plan quite sorted so why the additional effort of an engineering student. You can do your Bachelors in mass communication, learn a few foreign languages, learn production etc. Anyways it's your choice. But yes, you can pursue your desired course. Take part in events and activities during your college days and demonstrate your skill from now onwards.

First of all, you should acknowledge the fact that you are determined, hard-working and creative to have studied mass communication because it cuts across all spheres of life. Whether you desire to specialise in print, broadcast, advertising, public advertising, online journalism, etc. Doesn't limit your job opportunities.

Mass Communication courses broaden your horizons to the different types of careers one can pursue in the communication sector.
