If a student fails to clear CAT then MAT is the 2nd option and you write MAT in February or May. Academic year starts in June or July so yes, any university which is recognized by UGC has to accept the CAT score.

Hi,
MS Ramaiah Institute of Management accepts MAT cutoff and IFIM doesn't accept MAT. It only accepts XAT CAT and GMAT.

MAT Exam is a standardized national level management entrance examination used as an eligibility criterion by many top MBA colleges. Over 600 B-Schools all over India offer MBA admission on the basis of MAT score.
MAT exam is conducted by AIMA (All India Management Association) four times in a year I.e; in February, May, September, and December.
MAT 2018, February will be held on 4 Feb (Offline Test) and 17 Feb (Online Test).
