Hello friend,
Both exams are for the gateway to management college. MAT and CMAT have defined some colleges in their list so, I would ask you to get list of the colleges and then decide your college and exams to be given. There are certain colleges which do have their own set of criteria for admission. I would ask you to visit the colleges I am listing as these have some good reputation.
1) IES Management College and Research Center from Mumbai - https://www.shiksha.com/college/ies-management-college-and-research-centre-bandra-west-mumbai-28220

To apply you either need to clear the Christ University Tourism Aptitude Test (TAT) to be conducted during the selection process or have a composite score of 500 and above in Management Aptitude Test conducted by AIMA in September/December 2017 or valid CAT / XAT / CMAT / GMAT / GRE score.
Along with 50% marks in your undergraduate course.

Number of Questions in MAT as per the sections are -
Language Comprehension - 40
Mathematical Skills - 40
Data Analysis and Sufficiency - 40
Intelligence and Critical Reasoning - 40
Indian and Global Environment - 40
Total = 200 questions
120-130 correctly answered questions will get you around 85 percentile. But it's just a speculation, percentile score also depends on the difficulty level of paper. The number of students attending the exam and scores obtained by other students.

Yes, you have to apply separately as the choice of college in the MAT application is not an application to the college.
