NIST MBA admission is entrance-based. Admission is provided to the applicants who have a valid score in one of the accepted entrance exams. These exams include OJEE, MAT, CAT and XAT. Aspirants must apply and appear for one of these exams. Additionally, they submit the NIST application form for MBA admission. 70% of the total seats are filled through OJEE counselling. 15% of the total seats are filled through other accepted exams. Shortlisted candidates must report at the NIST campus for document verification. After document verification, candidates must confirm their admission by submitting the specifed MBA fees.

NIST MBA admission is provided to the applicants who have a valid exam score and are eligible as per the NIST MBA eligibility criteria. To be eligible for admission, candidates must have completed a bachelor's degree of a minimum of three-year duration, from any recognised university or institution. Candidates must have obtained at least 50% marks in the qualifying examination. The minimum marks required in case of reserved category candidates is 45%.

The Maharashtra government's Centralised Admission Process (CAP) is another requirement for candidates. KJ Somaiya Institute of Management (KJSIM) admission to MBA is based on CAT, CMAT, MAT, XAT scores. For MBA Sports Management, the institute may also considers CUET-PG scores.
