There are a lot of options for mechanical engineer graduates. I am writing this answer because I am also a mechanical engineer. Basically, after doing mechanical, you can apply in IIMs, IAS and all other civil services exam ,but if you are really interested in the mechanical engineering then i will appreciate you to choose mechanical engg.
Now, come on the core mechanical engineering career options:
Basically, you will learn three type of courses in B.Tech:

Generally, the eligibility criteria for M.Tech in Polymer Engineering- B.E. Or B.Tech. In Polymer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Petroleum Engineering, Textile, Polymer Technology or M.Sc. In Chemistry and Physics with minimum 50% marks in aggregate.

But you will find a table of qualifying Diploma branches for getting lateral admission in mechanical engineering, on the website of DTE of Tech Education of your state. In my opinion, you should opt mechanical from IIT-Indore because IIT-Indore provides good mechanical faculties, good course curriculum, good placements and good infrastructure also.
