Yes, you have chances to get in NITW mechanical engineering. Maximum you will get it in case if you missed it you will get civil engineering for sure.

If you are definitely going to Aeronautical in M.Tech then you should take B.Tech aeronautical because having same branch in both undergraduation and post graduation makes you skilled in the particular field.

Career as a Merchant Navy could be in 2 fields mainly - Engineer or a Cadet. Other fields could be catering, junior offiecers, etc. Subjects Required :Only PCM students can apply. Entrance Exam
IMU- CET :Indian Maritime University conducts an entrance exam IMUCET for various courses such as B.Sc. Nautical Science, B.Sc. Marine, B.Sc. From the available data, there is simply no mention of lateral admission in SRM. I am attaching a link that will give you all the required information about admission in SRM.

Mechanical branch in VIT, Vellore gets filled by a rank of around 10k. In VIT, Chennai it's available till a rank of around 15k. Marks around 90 for Vellore and 75 for Chennai.
P.S- It is based on my experience during counselling.
