If you pursue mechatronics, you can apply in mechanical as well as electrical engineering for higher studies and for a job too. But there is not any separate exam for mechatronics engineering to get a job such as GATE. Some of PSUs conduct its own exam for recruitment.

Yes, you can but it requires robotics knowledge as well Mechatronics can be understood to come from two words - Mecha, which stands for Mechanics and tronics, which stands for Electronics. Thus, Mecahtronics is the integration of Mechanical, Electrical and Software systems to make intelligent and more productive machines.
