It is definitely a good choice and a better place to learn mechatronics engineering in Chennai.
It has its own industry which makes most part of your learning practical and easy to grasp them too.
You can have a better knowledge regarding robotics and automation at CIT with good placements too.

My personal opinion is that graduation in mechatronics would be a better option. Though of course, aeronautical engineering is equally good. But I feel there would be fewer jobs in this branch in near term.

The best college for mechatronics in Tamil Nadu is PSG Technology, Coimbatore. So if you want to get a seat there through counseling, you need to have a cut-off of 196 and above (general category) or 190 and above for other categories.
