Mechatronics is a combination of mechanical and electronics used in the field of robotics. It is a different specialization and normally students opt for this course when pursuing M.Tech. Some colleges are offering this as a separate branch also in B.Tech but there are very few in no. You have to check for it. Switching of the mechatronics from separate branch depends on eligibility criteria in M.Tech. Normally, one has to give GATE exam in mechanical to choose this branch.

Modern production equipment consists of mechatronic modules that are integrated according to a control architecture. The most known architectures involve hierarchy, polyarchy, heterarchy, and hybrid. The scope is limited as of now but its growth would be tremendous. An industrial robot is a prime example of a mechatronics system; it includes aspects of electronics, mechanics, and computing to do its day-to-day jobs. With this specialization, you can have good scope outside India, especially in a country like Japan.
