Medical Electronics

Medical Electronics engineers develop devices and procedures that solve medical and health-related problems by combining their knowledge of biology and medicine with engineering principles and practices. Many do research, along with life scientists, chemists, and medical scientists, to develop and evaluate systems and products such as artificial organs, prostheses (artificial devices that replace missing body parts), instrumentation, medical information systems, and health management and care delivery systems. Medical electronics engineers also design devices used in various medical procedures, imaging systems such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and devices for automating insulin injections or controlling body functions.

Medical Electronics (which is mainly related to designing of medical equipment's) will see a growth in the coming years due to the growth in health care business and new technology inventions in the area but as of now the career scope is decent and not very booming. As this is quite a new field in India, there are not many colleges offering this course. However, few of which you can check are: Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, MS Ramaiah University.
After attaining a degree you would be able to find a job with Hospitals & various medical equipment manufacturers or after gaining some experience start your own manufacturing business.
However, I would also like to add here that if possible you should go for more evolved fields like Electrical or Electronics which will also make you eligible for medical electronics field.

Medical Electronics is a specialised discipline, which integrates engineering with Biomedical Sciences and Clinical Practice. This field seeks to close the gap between engineering and medicine. The discipline is a combination of design and problem solving skills of engineering with medical and biological sciences in order to develop healthcare treatment, which includes diagnosis, monitoring, treatment and therapy. Increasing demand for improved medical devices and systems is promoting research in various fields such as Bio-mechanics, Medical Imaging, Bio Signal Processing and Biosensors. Career options for medical engineers include working in research labs, hospitals for medical equipment maintenance and developing medical software.
