They analyze and interpret medical data to identify conditions like infections, cancers, genetic disorders, and other diseases. Their work involves performing various diagnostic tests such as histopathology, cytology, haematology, and microbiology to aid in accurate disease diagnosis. In India, an MD programme cannot be completed in 2 years. The standard duration for MD courses in India is 3 years, following the completion of an MBBS degree. This duration allows students to undergo extensive clinical training and gain in-depth knowledge in their chosen specialization. There are no regular MD programs that can be completed in just 2 years in India, as the curriculum is designed to ensure that students are well-equipped with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in their Medical field.

Pathologists play a crucial role in understanding the mechanisms of diseases and providing diagnostic support to other doctors. MD Medicine, on the other hand, is a clinical specialisation that involves diagnosing, treating, and managing a wide variety of adult diseases. Physicians trained in MD Medicine (also known as internal medicine) typically work in the healthcare field. MD Medicine offers more patient interaction and a broader scope in terms of direct care and diagnosis.
