The eligibility for joining merchant navy is finishing class 12th with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Candidates have to be unmarried Indian citizens (male or female). Normal vision is required but glasses up to plus or minus 2.5 may be allowed. Good luck.

I think merchant navy companies advertise their vacancies for law posts and mostly international law would be wanted. Cases like north continental shelf and lotus case, contracts, international private law etc. But, as a deck officer I don't think we have those options.

Yes. Apart from doing a course for marine engineering or nautical Science, you can also join Merchant Navy through direct entry. You may join as engine cadet/ fifth engineer/ junior engineer and can get promotion later by writing a probationary exam arranged by the Directorate General of shipping.
