Hi,
Going abroad for your Masters is what I would recommend, it will give you enough exposure both in teems global and opportunities. If you are interested in merchant navy you can consider pursuing it from abroad such as Singapore, UK, Australia, Hong Kong, etc.

You are advised to appear for Joint admission test conducted by Indian Maritime University. IMU is a central government university to co-ordinate maritime education in India.

Hi,
The Indian Maritime University is a Central University that was established by Government of India for imparting quality education in the maritime field. It has an All-India jurisdiction and the headquarters is at Chennai.
It has campuses at Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Visakhapatnam and Cochin. The university conducts degree and post graduate courses on nautical science, marine engineering, ship building and international transportation and logistics management. Lots of private colleges are affiliated to IMU. IMU conducts its own entrance namely All India Common Entrance Test. You may appear in CET to pursue your merchant navy career.

There are two streams in merchant navy: navigation and engineering. To be a navigating officer, you have to complete a three-year course and to be a marine engineer it's a four-year B.Tech/BE course. Now some pointers about life at sea.
The salary and benefits are excellent but in the initial years, you have to stay at sea for 5 months and then you get a 2-month leave. Senior officers/engineers have to stay in the sea for less.
