There could be as many opinions as persons involved. As per me metallurgy and materials will have better prospects than mines. Lot of research is going in materials and metallurgy.

Civil Engineering is better option among the two as you will get more opportunities in engineering and construction companies. You can also target GATE and look to get into PSUs or can go for further studies (M.Tech).

Hello Sai,
Lateral admissions are prerogative of concerned state govt. Normally table is published indicating which branches in diploma will make you eligible for which branch in engineering. Check for PI with your polytechnic where you completed your diploma & they will inform you immediately.

You are eligible to seek admission in B.Tech lateral entry in the 2nd-year of mechanical engineering after Diploma in metallurgy. You may appear for LEET exam conducted by various engineering colleges or state governments.

Dear Ravi,
Yes, of course you can take any branch in B.Tech through lateral entry scheme. For that, you will have to appear in LEET entrance exam conducted by each state university and some deemed universities.

Hello Ravi,
Normally admissions are given based on your performance. If you have merit then you can choose the college of your choice. If you are low on merit then you have to select from a limited choice.
