Yes, anyone can pursue this course. Multimedia and animation fields are under the industry named media and entertainment. The media and entertainment industry in India consists of many different segments under its folds such as television, print, films, radio, music, OOH, animation, gaming and visual effects (VFX) and internet advertising.
In these segments you need understanding of software skill, and tools of the industry. Even, you don't require any degree because this industry depends on the software skills and creativity.

I think, you must go for full-fledged animation course because animation is very vast field. In full-fledged course, you have graphic designing, web designing, 2D animation, sketching, 3D modelling and 3D animation.
These courses generally last from 2-3 years. But, I personally prefer you to go for full-fledged course.
