In 2017, there's a great value in pursuing Visharad as after doing it you can directly apply for MA (Music) & then there's no need to do BA (Music) 3 Years course or 1 Year BA Music programme. Yes, it can be called a degree. I am myself pursuing Hindustani Shastriya Sangeet from Gandharva Mahavidhyalaya.

I believe there is some age limit for pursuing Bachelors, yet you can confirm from the institute where you wish to apply. You may be in luck and get admission.
