NIST Berhampur is ranked 49th by the Times Engineering 2023, 140 by Outlook 2023 under the Engineering (Private) category, and 46th by Times 2023 under the Engineering (Private) category. National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) is promoted by the SM Charitable Educational Trust. The placements offered by the college are also very good. Hence, it is a good college.

NIST BTech admission is a multi-step process. Aspirants must begin with applying for the JEE (Main) as it is the accepted entrance exam for BTech admission. After appearing for the exam, they must register for the JEE counselling of their respective states. 70% of the total seats are filled through OJEE counselling while 15% of the total seats will be based on the JEE counselling of other states. At the time of admission to the BTech programme of NIST Berhampur, selected candidates have to pay an admission seat confirmation fee and a refundable caution deposit. The admission seat confirmation fee at NIST is INR 15,000. The fee amount is later adjusted toward the first instalment of the total BTech fee, which ranges between INR 4.28 lakh and INR 6.48 lakh for four years. Additionally, students must submit a caution deposit of INR 5,000 which will be refunded to them after the completion of the programme. Candidates who have secured a seat for BTech at NIST through the OJEE counselling must report physically to the NIST campus, for document verification and admission formalities. They must ensure that they bring the original documents along with a set of photocopies for submission. Failure to provide the required documents may result in the cancellation of admission. After the document verification, shortlisted candidates can proceed to pay the BTech admission confirmation fee and other fees as applicable.
