The minimum educational qualification required to pursue this course is 10+2 Science stream schooling with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects. Students should have passed 12th Board examination from a Recognized Board. Minimum marks criteria may exist and is generally around 50-60% marks in Board Examination.
B.Sc. Degree holders (subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) may also pursue this course. Minimum marks criteria may exist and is generally between 50-60% marks in final year of Degree program.

Nautical Science is an undergraduate course approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, which falls under the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India.
The course is a study of the basic academic and practical devices required to safely navigate and operate marine vehicles, such as a ship. The subjects of study that form part of the courses curriculum are navigation and seamanship, which is the basic science of application of shipboard equipment and tools.
