The National Eligibility Screening Test, or NEST, is a competitive test that evaluates candidates only on their ability to comprehend fundamental scientific principles. NEST is primarily provided as a prerequisite for enrollment in these two prestigious institutes' five-year integrated Master of Science programmes in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics. A total score of 50 is achieved by earning 17 points for each question. The top three sections out of the four will be selected from a total of 200 marks for the entire paper.

No, the NEST syllabus is not identical to the NEET exam syllabus, although there is some overlap.  NEST covers four subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics. Whereas, NEET focuses on only three subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. NEST generally delves deeper into the concepts compared to NEET. It might include some topics not covered in NEET, especially in Mathematics (Calculus, Statistics) and some areas of Physics and Chemistry.

Computer-based testing is used in the NEST exam (CBT). This indicates that applicants must respond to the questions on the computer screen during the computer-based exam. Exams conducted using CBT have numerous benefits over traditional pen and paper methods, such as: Accuracy: Because there is no chance of human error when scanning and evaluating the answer sheets, computer-based tests (CBT) have higher accuracy than pen-and-paper exams. Efficiency: Because the results of CBT examinations can be obtained faster than those of pen and paper exams, they are more efficient than the latter. Security: Because it is harder to cheat on a CBT
