With such a gap it might be difficult to get admission itself, however, suggest you apply as it won't cost you much or rather may be free also if there is no application fee for the university / college where you are applying. If you get admission then try for the visa, if the visa officer is satisfied with your explanation then you have a chance of getting a visa. I will suggest you to use the services of a good education consultant as for NZ as it will help and you will not be charged any consultation fee.

Can you specify your education details and gap period clearly for proper guidance? You must be well aware of the fact that you can apply for a student visa only after you have received the admission offer from a university.
