Self assessment is the key. You should self assess and understand whether you need to take formal training before the exam. It is advisable to take training for the following reasons 1) the competition is high, hence there is no harm in seeking guidance for preparation if it makes u more confident and skilled 2) like any other competitive exam IIT medical etc. ). NIFT also has its set pattern and hence, training will only help you answer the paper well. There are correspondence courses that you can opt for and learn at the comfort of your home. You are eligible for NIFT. The eligibility is:
Candidates appearing in the final year of qualifying examination are also eligible to apply for NIFT 2018. If the class 12/final year/final semester (as the case may be) result of qualifying degree/certificate examination has not been declared by the concerned Board/University till the date of NIFT 2018 counseling/admission, then the candidates' admission in such case will be strictly provisional subject to the following conditions:
Duly signed affidavit of Rs.10 on non-judicial stamp paper. In case, the candidate is less than 18 years of age, then his/her parent or guardian should

The seats reserved for SC / ST / Person With Disability (PWD)/ Foreign Nationals / SAARC / NR / State
Domicile, in each programme are as under:
SC - 15%
ST - 7.5%
OBC (non-creamy) - 27%
Person With Disability (PWD) - 5% Horizontal reservation for Person With Disability (PWD) (with 40% or more disability) cutting across all sections I.e. SCs, STs, OBCs Non-Creamy and General category. Campus and programme will be allotted on rotation, at NIFTs discretion.
Foreign Nationals/ SAARC/NRI - 15%
State Domicile - 20%
The qualifying candidates need to meet the eligibility and admission requirements of NIFT.
