NMIMS - NPAT Pattern

For admission to undergraduate programs offered by NMIMS (Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies) University and its member colleges, the NPAT (National Test for Programs After Twelfth) test is administered. Multiple-choice questions (MCQs) covering a range of subjects usually make up an exam. The following categories of questions are frequently seen on the NPAT exam:Ability in Mathematics and Quantitation: challenges involving math that cover subjects like algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, probability, and arithmetic.There may be computations, reasoning, and problem-solving exercises in the questions.Speaking Proficiency and Understanding of Reading: Grammar, vocabulary, sentence correction, and reading comprehension are among the areas in which questions assessing English language competency are found, questions based on texts, in which applicants must respond to questions about the provided passages.Logical Reasoning: Questions assessing logical thinking, analytical reasoning, and problem-solving skills.Topics may include analogies, coding-decoding, series completion, puzzles, seating arrangement, blood relations, direction sense, etc.General Awareness: Questions covering current affairs, general knowledge, business awareness, famous personalities, awards and honors, sports, history, geography, science, etc. The focus may be on both national and international events and developments.Data Interpretation: Questions based on data tables, graphs, charts, and diagrams. Candidates are required to analyze and interpret the given data to answer questions related to it.

SVKMs NMIMS conducts the NPAT exam with no negative marking. Candidates who take the NPAT exam are evaluated based on the marking scheme set by the examination authority. Each correct response marked by the candidate fetches (+)1 mark. Since there is no negative marking, candidates do not get any negative marks for incorrect responses or unattempted questions. Therefore, candidates takjing the NPAT exam can answer all the questions, weather or not they know the answer to a particular question. Guess work may lead to a correct response.NPAT score is not released by SVKMs NMIMS, the institute specifies the NPAT merit position along with the results.

The NPAT exam consists of three sections, each section with a different set of question types. Three sections of NMIMS-NPAT exam includes Verbal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning.Verbal Reasoning section tests the ability to understand and interpret written material. The questions in the section are based on the following types:Identify the main idea of a passageFind the word meaning in contextIdentifying relationships between ideas within a passageMake inferences from a passageAnalyse the structure of a passageMCQs gauge grammar and vocabularyLogical Reasoning section of NPAT exam tests the ability to think logically and solve problems. The questions in this section are designed to ask the following:Identify patternsComplete sequencesAnalyse argumentsDraw inferencesSolve problems based critical thinking skillsQuantitative Reasoning section has questions to test the ability to understand and apply mathematical concepts. The questions in this section will ask candidates to:Solve equationsWork with fractions and decimalsCalculate percentagesInterprets graphs and chartsSolve word problems, etc.The NPAT exam syllabus is not confined to the topics mentioned above. Candidates may come across questions within the section across varied topics. Therefore, candidates must try and solve different types of questions from these three sections discussed above.
