NAU awards merit scholarships specifically designed for international students (undergraduate and postgraduate) that got admit directly into a university degree program. International Excellence Award and Global Achievement Award are two scholarships designed for international students. The International Excellence Award was established to provide opportunities for high-achieving underrepresented international students to pursue higher education at NAU. While, the Global Achievement Award is a one-time, merit-based achievement award split over the fall and spring semesters.

NAU requires candidates to submit GRE score for admission. Admission to graduate programs is competitive, and no exam scores or grades guarantee admission. Apart from the GRE, international applicants need to submit the required IELTS or TOEFL scores for getting into NAU's graduate program. For master-level courses, NAU offers three degrees - Master of Science in Informatics (MSINF), The Master of Science in Computer Science (MSCS), and Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE).
