Geophysics is an applied subject of Earth sciences. It has two broad aspects as far as career is concerned:
If you are aiming for higher education as MS, Ph.D, M.Phil. This field has enormous opportunities throughout the world. Several renowned universities accept students as research scholars both in India (IITs, ISM and BHU) as well as abroad. Several research institutes are also there to take students as project interns. ( NGRI, NIOS, IITM, etc.). There are different branches of geophysics each of which carries good scope to be a good researcher in the field of Earth Sciences. Another aspect is professional aspect. There are various vacancies in giant companies like ONGC, CIL, GAIL, IOCL and BPCL which recruits both from campus as well as through offline examination. Since last two years, UPSC is conducting exams for GSI grade A and B officers having graduated from geophysics. Globally, MNCs like Shell, Schlumberger and others too recruit geophysics candidates however due to the recent dip in oil prices, I would not recommend to focus on that. M.Sc in Oceanography:
Oceanography is the branch of Earth Science which deals with the study of oceans and seas with specific importance to coastline, estuaries, coastal waters, shelves and the ocean B.Ed. The subject of study covers a wide range of topics, including marine organisms and ecosystem dynamics; ocean currents, waves, and geophysical fluid dynamics; plate tectonics and the geology of the sea floor; and fluxes of various chemical substances and physical properties within the ocean and across its boundaries.

Specialised branches of oceanography are chemical, geological, physical and marine biology. The most prestigious institutes conducting courses in this field are: IIT Madras, Mumbai Institute of Technology, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Annamalai University and Karnataka Engineering College.
Eligibility
The basic criterion for applying to a Bachelor's degree in Geology is qualifying Class XII examination or equivalent with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry. The duration of Bachelor's degree is three years and four if you apply for Honors.
The basic criterion for applying to a Master's degree in Geology is passing the graduation degree with the required subject with a minimum of 50 percent marks. The duration for Master's degree is two years.
In order to apply for a Ph.D in Geology, the candidate must score a minimum of 55 percent marks in their Master's degree.
Moreover, if you want to go through the IITs you may have to appear for a qualifying examination. Cut-offs for the entrance exam will be declared after the exam is conducted successfully for its students, so it is better to wait until that time.
