For a Bachelor of Science in Optometry, the combination of subjects in 10+2 should consist of PCM or PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or Mathematics with English). Mathematics is one of the subjects in this course, but it's not that important. Becoming an ophthalmologist requires a medical degree first, which requires biology and chemistry as the main subjects. Optometry, yes, needs physics and mathematics. Ophthalmology has a significant degree of math, particularly regarding refractive surgery. I hope this will help you.

Yes, you can study without a Bachelor of Medicine or Bachelor of Surgery. To become an ophthalmologist you must have cleared 10+2 examinations in Chemistry Biology Physics and English with Biology or Maths as optional subjects with at least 45 percent to 50 percent marks and should have passed out from the recognised board or institution.
