Petroleum engineering will be dominating world economy for many more years to come and hence will have opportunities for employment. On the other hand, chemical branch deals with a subject that is going to last till humans are alive. It too has tremendous potential for employment. My opinion is that you should bid for both branches but accept whatever comes first.

Academy of maritime education and training university - [AMET], Chennai and VELS University, Chennai are the best colleges in Tamil Nadu for petrochemical engineering.

IIT Madras and Anna University are the good options.
