There are a number of books which you can follow for the GATE, just read thoroughly each chapter whichever book you follow. I am suggesting you some books:-
for production: - Production operations by Allen Robert (vol-1 & vol-2),
for Drilling - Well engineering and construction by H. Rabia,
for Reservoir - fundamentals of reservoir engineering by L.P Dake & book by Tariq Ahmed and for
Logging - Log interpretation principles and operations- Schlumberger.
Also, there are many books and handbooks which you can follow. Just remember don't follow so many books but complete each section of petroleum engineering from one book of each section.

Hi Akshar,
Petroleum engineering is a great course, but if you want to seek options, then you can either apply to their Aerospace Engineering or Computer Science Engineering course.
I am only giving you these two options because they have really good exposure and placement records.
But when you take the name of UPES, all the courses are really well and provide a geod direction to your career. Yet, if you are unsure of the stream then you can select any course you like from their more than 30 streams. You can find the details here-http://www.upes.ac.in/upes_btech/courses.php

While it is true that Crude Oil is a non-renewable source of energy and that it will get exhausted one day, that scenario won't arrive all of a sudden! So, one doesn't need to worry about lack of jobs in this field in near future!
The job market saturation in case of Petroleum Engineering graduates is relatively very low. Yes, when it comes to other branches like IT, CS, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, etc., the job market is too saturated. Each year, loads of Engineering Graduates pass out from Colleges, crowding the job market. In case of this Engineering Branch, job market saturation should not bother you much. This means there i
