The Oil & Gas Industry is a cyclical one. If you can ride through the low tides and cash in during the high ones, petroleum engineering is the right choice for you.
Having said that, PE can get placed in PSUs (in India via GATE) and other private companies like Schlumberger, Shell, Cairn etc. The post of a petroleum engineer is a lucrative one, considering the humongous packages that they earn.
Once you go for a higher degree and with relevant experience, you will become indispensable to the industry as it slowly facing manpower shortage and a generation gap in its workforce.

Earning factors depends upon several other factors such as college, location, placement ansd most importantly your grades and your performance in placement drives of the college. And I my opinion you shouldn't concentrate on earning soi early in career.

Hello Shubham,
The three branches of engineering that you mentioned are exotic branches. All are good. But I feel you should go for marine. However remember, hard work is the only solution for any problem.

Hey Satyam,
Definitely, you will get a seat in UPES. Kindly wait for the counselling and choose from the programmes being offered to you. See you got 4512 rank, right? So, it doesn't mean that all aspirants who has a rank below 4512 will join UPES only, they may have taken different engineering exams and they may have got a chance in other colleges. So, probably you will get a seat, do not worry.

Getting a college depends on your JEE Mains rank. Good colleges for petroleum are UPES (they have their own exam) and IIT-Dhanbad.
