No, it doesn't have a good scope. You should opt for CSE or civil engineering for good career prospects.

Placements are decent in UPES. It's not very different from the placements from other colleges. However, a lot of people in the college do get in the core companies which is a good thing.
As far as the petroleum placements are concerned, the average placements packages are more or less similar to other branches, however there is a chances you can secure a very high package provided to intern at a core company like Schlumberger or Cairn India. A lot depends on your GPA if you are in Petroleum engineering in UPES.

Hello Shubh,
To become a petroleum engineer, all you have to do is choose a good university, if you get admission in IIT/NIT/ DTU well enough, then you are at the right place to learn.
Give you entrance for IIT-JEE / AIEEE and other engineering entrances.
If you wish to seek admission in a private college here is my list of colleges where you can try for Petroleum engineering.
1. University of Technology and Management (UTM, Shillong)
2. UPES
3. DIT University
4. LPU

If you are interested in engineering field, then go for B.Tech.
If you are interested in Science stream means go for B.Sc. Both have good scope. All courses are good. Select what you want to do.
