Firstly, aspirants must ensure that they fulfil the eligibility criteria for PhD at Annamalai University. Further, the selection is based on a PG entrance test conducted by the university followed by an interview round. The weightage of the entrance exam is 70 and for the interview is 30. The candidates who score 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/OBC/PwD) in the exam and interview round become eligible for admission. Candidates with an MPhil degree from an approved university or UGC-JRF/ NET/ SLET/ SET/ GATE/ CSIR/ ICHR/ ICPR/ ICSSR-qualified candidates and teacher fellowship are exempted from the entrance test. These candidates are directly called for an interview round.

Yes, the university offers scholarships to PhD students. Most of the students carry out their research programmes with the provision of numerous fellowships. TNAU support the students of postgraduates by offering TNAU Merit Scholarship, TNAU research assistantship for PhD students, Vice chancellor’s Fellowship for merit in research for PhD students and Dr.A.P.J.Abdulkalam Fellowship. Possible funding from externally funded schemes was arranged to the rank holders and progressive students in DST – Inspire, CSIR Scholarships, UGC Scholarships, ICSSR, ICCR Scholarships, MHRD National Scholarships, Prime Minister fellowship, Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund Fellowships among others.
