NTA has conducted the UGC NET exam in 82 subjects this year. As per the exam guidelines, you can appear for the UGC NET exam in the subject in which you have done the post-graduation or related to that. As you said you have completed Masters' in Child Psychology, so you can apply for the exam with Psychology subject. Before appearing for the UGC NET exam must check out that you eligible or not for the exam. Firstly decide where to do your Ph.D. You must visit university websites to learn about probable Ph.D programmes in your area. There is no general answer to your question, but the best thing to do is research. Identify best universities offering Ph.D programmes in your area. Write to them. Take GRE if required.
