Generally, all the universities require you to hold a Master's degree in order to pursue a Ph.D but there are a few exceptions by which one can join a Ph.D course right after Bachelor's degree. For the latter option, please check IIIT-D Ph.D course.

Your question falls in the Ph.D English tag as well which suggests you want to do a Ph.D in English. A Ph.D depends more on the previous qualifications. The university falls under the approved universities and the course of Ph.D has its own benefits. I wish to share this personal observation, not a common though, that a Ph.D from private universities is, most of the times, looked down upon. Ph.D gives you chances of promotion in a job. It adds to the eligibility to teach UG and PG students, especially, PG classes are given to Ph.D holders. JJT is a private university, but not questionable. Ph.D has benefits. Yes, you can. Not many people do that, though. I think the primary cause is that most people fail to avoid the temptation of earning big bucks after PGDM. If anyone is really determined to do a Ph.D. he/she would generally go for an FPM programme in one of the good schools. FPM is equivalent to Ph.D. If you are not sure of the long time-commitment right now, go for PGDM and then do a Ph.D. later but like I said, it gets difficult after 2 years to join a new programme because you would be older and you would likely have to leave a nice job.

Be mentally prepared for what you'll be going through, brush up your basic concepts coz that are most frequently asked and prepare your synopsis. Give some mock interviews as it would really be helpful. Most importantly, don't panic at that time.

The exam pattern may be different for different colleges. Generally, the exam will be subjective type. There will be no negative marking. The cut-off marks required may differ with universities. The questions will be basically from the subjects covered during post-graduation period.

Yes, you can apply for the NET exam. But first, understand what is the NET exam? The UGC NET and CSIR NET exam are conducted for the lectureship and awards for junior fellowship. The Science stream candidates can apply for one of the five subjects that are life Science, earth Science, physical Science, chemical Science, and mathematical Science. While the UGC NET Exam is conducted for the 84 subjects for various stream candidates. The minimum eligibility for the CSIR NET Exam is post graduation degree, but the B.Tech candidates can also apply for the NET JRF exam.
