D.Y. Patil admits students to most of its programs strictly on merit and academic performance along with scores at entrance exams, though this varies from program to program as well as on the qualifications of the applicants. Programs like MBA or engineering require the entrance exams like CAT, MAT, or MHT CET and clearing the specified cutoff is very important for such programs. The admission process is moderately competitive because it ties up with eligibility criteria and the rounds of selection for a specific course. With regard to specific courses in which competition is less, the admission may be easier. Academic record, practice for entrance examinations, and submitting applications well ahead of the deadline can improve the chances of an offer for admission.

Proactive - D Y Patil University has taken very good care of placements for BBA, though student opinion varies. The highest placement goes up to the level of INR 21 LPA, and lowest around INR 6.9 LPA. Placement rate is around 90%. Infosys, Reliance Industries, Wipro, Axis Bank are some of the recruiters. However, a few students feel that placement efforts are below par, and one has to become self-reliant in finding employment. Despite all this, the university does offer quality education, practical exposures, and good infrastructure for BBA and therefore, a value-for-money option. Networking outside campus is also recommended for better opportunities.
