GRE and PTE/IELTS are both requirements for any form of study you wish to pursue. GRE is basically a test for the university to guage whether the person applying for an admission possesses the bas=re minimum knowledge required of a person to enroll under a course. IELTS and PTE are 2 types of English proficiency testis where the prior is recognised more than the latter. However, in case of a proper work opportunity, you would still require IELTS as the English Proficiency test. With the recent changes, the score barrier has gone up and certain people find it difficult to achieve the same. A better alterative would be to enroll in some form of study which would then allow you to scale up to a PR and a job opportunity in Canada. One of the interesting one's that I recently encountered is this Study & Work programme where you basically get to do a course while earning part-time and once you finish the course, you can work full time for about 6 months.

PTE Academic is accepted for study at a range of institutions in Canada. You can take your test at one of the centers in Canada or at one of the Pearson VUE locations overseas to send your scores to your chosen institution. PTE Academic typically delivers results in five days so you don't need to worry about your English scores. After much wait an official announcement has been made by Pearson PTE Academic has partnered for a Pilot programme with seven institutes in Canada under SPP programs for the student visa.
