If we compare these 2 languages, then Python is much more beneficial for you, as Python is uses in machine learning, which will allow you to create software for the future.

I don't know the exact reason, but the lecturers haven't studied Python in their Under/Post Graduation, so they don't master in such languages which they haven't studied yet. According to me, this could be the reason but you shouldn't worry about that, try searching for online courses, they'll give you much more in-depth knowledge without worrying about the syllabus.
