The massive growth of cloud computing in recent years has been a bane for some automation testing tools. Which has benefited the most? Selenium!
Gone are the days, when you approach a software firm for some need and they provide an on-premise software in return.
Nowadays it's all on-the-cloud. And how is this impacting software testing tools?
Well, tools for testing software have a reduced demand whereas tools for testing web applications have seen an increasing demand.
That's why tools like Selenium, QTP, TestComplete are doing well. But, even here, Selenium is the one that dominates because of its nature.
Being open-source, it is the preferred tool for testing at almost all start-ups and a majority of MNCs. I may have over-said the facts, but it is only to show the kind of dominance Selenium has in the market today.
This is not to say that QTP will not garner you jobs. But its just that if you get into Selenium, you have a wider array of opportunities a few years down the line.
Because Selenium also forms an important aspect of DevOps continuous testing phase. Who knows, when implementing DevOps, you might just learn more into DevOps like Jenkins, Docker, Puppet/ Chef, etc, and build a career there.
