For B.Tech/BE in robotics, the candidate must have passed the higher secondary school certificate (10+2) examination with science subjects such as biology, maths and chemistry. For admission into IIT colleges, it is compulsory to attain high grades in the Joint Entrance Examinations (JEE). Other entrances that you can opt for are BITSAT, All India Engineering Entrance Exams, and SRM Engineering Entrance Examination (SRM EEE).

I would say it's yet to gain momentum. It would be easier to explain if the question has specialisations in robotics. Robotics has several aspects: mechanics, motor controls, sensors and actuators, vision, computing, and intelligence. There are numerous companies working on these fields individually, but there are hardly few companies working on all of these domains or on a robotic product as such. If you consider Machine Intelligence, you will find several startups and MNCs.
