SHU provides separate on-campus accommodation to freshman students at certain residential halls. Freshman students have the option of choosing between rooms that accommodate up to three members. Returning students have the option of choosing between apartment and suite-style rooms during their sophomore year. Options, such as townhouses, are also provided by some residential halls. Though Sacred Heart University is selective when choosing applications, the acceptance rate of Sacred Heart is 64%. This means out of 100 applicants only 64 get admissions. Sacred Heart University offers scholarships based on merit to international students. Scholarships are also offered based on life programs or activities in which students participate. Activity-based scholarship awards depend on the kind of participation and activity in which students engage. Therefore, they do not have to submit another independent application to secure these scholarships. The GPA and course selection are evaluated along with high school rankings while awarding merit-based scholarships ranging from USD 8,500 to USD 17,500. Students need not maintain their GPAs for the renewal of these scholarships every year. The scholarships are awarded on a first-come-first-served basis.Graduate ScholarshipsInternational graduate students can try to secure scholarships from external sources. For example, the Federal Tech Grant is awarded to those graduates who have enrolled in courses that will make them eligible to be secondary or elementary teachers. However, these students must accept an agreement stating they will work in a secondary or elementary school located in an area where there is a shortage of teachers. These schools must be dedicated to children who belong to poor families. Students who are unable to fulfill this obligation will need to repay the awarded scholarship as an unsubsidized loan along with interest. An amount of up to USD 4,000 is provided every year to students who get this grant.
