Yes, you can join Diploma in Direction and Screenplay Writing in any one of the private film institutions. The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) and M.G.R. Government Film and Television Institute are requiring a Degree qualification for the admission to the course. So you can join and complete the course in any of the private film coaching institutions. After completing the course you can join as assistant director with any of the film directors to gain some practical experience.

The applications for FTII Admission 2018 will be available through online mode only at ftiindia.com.
The online application form is to be filled and submitted through online mode. Application submitted by any other mode will not be accepted.
To fill in the details in the online application form, candidates need to register first.
Fill in the required details, upload photograph and signature and submit the application form.
Make payment for the application fee by State Bank of Patiala (SBP) collect.
Forms without application fees will not be accepted under any circumstances. Candidates must ensure that the application fees is paid on or before the due date and time.

Direction is the most coveted seat at FTII, followed by acting. Compared to the other streams, the ratio of competition is 67 times higher.
If you aspire to become a director, you gotta have a taste for music, sound design, cinematography, editing, acting, art direction, story boarding, screenplay and should intensely feel for them. Direction is like conducting an orchestra or captaining a ship. You do not have to do anything individually. But you must exert great command. And above all, you must be willing to learn these departments and be obsessed with some of them. Hope you are ready!
Honestly, I never prepared a single minute for the entrance test. You best go and be yourself because if you have passion for art and you are a graduate, you know a few things by now.

Watch the movies of Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak, Akira Kurosawa, Ingmar Bergman, Martin Scorcese.
Look up online. In YouTube, there are several channels on filmmaking and film-analysis. I like 'every frame a painting' a lot.
For the multiple choice questions, brush up on some art and culture information from GK books and newspapers.
