The condition of NITs (except the top NITs) is worst. Many newly established NITs are still struggling for campus and well as faculty members.
I am not saying that you should expect nothing. It is up to you and your calibre to get a good job offer.The placement cell can only invite the companies for you. Getting a job or not depends on you. It is well known for its facilities provided. The infrastructure of the university, sports complex hospital and faculty members are very good.

Cons:
First of all, no government organisation or any PSU would consider your degree of mechanical and automation engineering equivalent to a mechanical engineering degree because of which you will not be able to qualify for companies looking for mechanical engineers.
The number of core companies visiting the campus during a placement season is very less, that being Anglo Eastern Shipping that do offer packages as high as 14 lacs, but then you have to spend around 4 months on the ship.

Selection process goes something like this there is a list of cutoffs for a threshold values for certain selection criteria for example all the students with GRE above 310 will be cleared or All students at CGPA above 8 out of 10 will be selected, etc. This limit is not very strict and flexible there is also criteria of English proficiency test.
